Bringing New Siblings Closer Together
SibLink is a website that aims to connect and support biological children who have or will have a child in foster or adoptive care placed within their home. Through the process of our family fostering multiple siblings, both me and my sister found that the utter lack of training and support provided to children gaining siblings through the fostering process was discomforting. While our parents endured hours of paperwork and training classes, we simply sat back and were, it seemed, just along for the ride. We were not provided with any resources to deal with the drastic shifts in the family dynamic that were inevitable. Furthermore, we did not have access to a support system, or connections to any other children who had gone through similar experiences.
While it may feel as though you are blindly feeling your way through the dark— which, to be clear, we definitely were at times and sometimes still are— we felt that creating a platform that shared our own experiences with foster care and adoption could shed some light on what the experience is like. Though it is undeniable that everyone’s circumstances are different, we hope our stories and advice will ring true in relation to whatever you are going through. We also want SibLink to be a place for you to share your own stories, in hopes that we can form a strong support system in which we can share any questions, concerns, or advice.
We truly hope that our website for siblings of adoptive and foster families can help ease the transition of a new sibling and make everything just a little bit easier for the entire family.
